CU Boulder announces tentative plans to increase in-person classes in summer, fall

· February 24, 2021 ·

University of Colorado Boulder will offer a mix of in-person, online and hybrid courses for the summer term and is tentatively planning a fall semester with a majority of classes in person, along with more events and activities. Plans will be based on the spread of coronavirus this spring, vaccine rollout and general pandemic trends, Provost Russell Moore and Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke wrote in a message to campus Wednesday. Along with more in-person classes, the fall semester could include more social activities and events, more dining options and more public attendance at athletic events and arts and culture activities. Residence halls could also operate at close to full capacity. “We will work cooperatively with public health authorities and believe that we can maintain a safe campus environment while opening the CU Boulder campus experience to a far greater extent,” Moore and O’Rourke wrote. It’s not yet clear what percent of summer courses will be in … [Read more...] about CU Boulder announces tentative plans to increase in-person classes in summer, fall

CU School of Medicine launches endowed scholarship to support Black, underrepresented students in medical field

· February 22, 2021 ·

The University of Colorado School of Medicine announced Monday the establishment of an endowed scholarship fund to support Black and other underrepresented medical students. The $2 million Charles J. Blackwood, MD, Endowed Memorial Scholarship, named after the school’s first Black graduate, was organized by the Mile High Medical Society, a Denver-based group of Black health professionals. Blackwood, who graduated from the medical school in 1947 after earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from CU Boulder, was in the top 10 of his class. The Trinidad-born Coloradan could only sit in certain places in his lecture halls and lived in separate housing from his classmates, CU said. Among other accomplishments, Blackwood opened a private practice; served three years in the U.S. Air Force, during which time he opened the Radiology Department at Hamilton Air Force Base in California; and was the first African American clinical professor of medicine at the CU School of Medicine. … [Read more...] about CU School of Medicine launches endowed scholarship to support Black, underrepresented students in medical field

CU Buffs 2021 football roster analysis

· February 25, 2021 ·

On Tuesday, Karl Dorrell marked the one-year anniversary of the day he was introduced as the head football coach at Colorado. In a little over a month, Dorrell and the Buffaloes will return to the practice field. CU is scheduled to start spring practices on March 29, with a spring game slated for April 30. At this point, the Buffs, coming off a 4-2 season, have their spring roster set. With the 2021 recruiting class complete and movement in and out of the transfer portal slowing down, the fall roster is taking shape, as well. CU currently has 91 scholarship players projected for the fall and can have 88 in the fall, so some post-spring attrition is expected. Although there could be some players leave or others brought in between now and the fall, here’s a look at the projected scholarship roster for the 2021 season. Quarterbacks Players (4): Sam Noyer, Sr.; JT Shrout, So.; Brendon Lewis, Fr.; Drew Carter, Fr. Analysis: Noyer, who started all six games last year, had … [Read more...] about CU Buffs 2021 football roster analysis

One year ago today, Colorado hired Karl Dorrell: The inside story of a courtship that required just one conversation

· February 23, 2021 ·

One year later, the relationship seems preordained. Karl Dorrell has instilled his brand of calm and cool into a Colorado football program that was in dire need of both — a program that had been ditched by its head coach, a program that was forever one win short, that had a fragile roster and lacked momentum and was consumed by uncertainty as the pandemic descended and society lurched to the edge. One year later, the skeptics have been silenced. Unflappable as the Flatirons, Dorrell provided instant stability, kept the roster intact, managed his staff, navigated the local health restrictions, demanded accountability, identified a quarterback, guided the Buffaloes to unexpected success and was named the 2020 Pac-12 Coach of the Year. “He has done everything I thought he would do, and he has been exactly who I thought he was,’’ Colorado athletic director Rick George said recently as he reflected on the process that led to Dorrell being named head coach on Feb. 23, 2020. “We … [Read more...] about One year ago today, Colorado hired Karl Dorrell: The inside story of a courtship that required just one conversation
