BEIJING -- The lander and rover of China's Chang'e 4 probe have begun their 28th lunar day of work on the far side of the moon. Landing on the moon on Jan. 3, 2019, the Chang'e 4 probe has survived 795 Earth days on the moon, the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration said Monday. A lunar day is equal to about 14 days on Earth, and a lunar night is of the same length. The solar-powered probe switches to dormant mode during the lunar night. China pledges greater reforms to chart course for sustainable growth
BEIJING - China has set a sound growth target for 2021, leaving room for policymakers to carry out arduous reforms to tackle bottlenecks constraining sustainable development. BEIJING -- China's top legislature will continue with the work plan for enacting and revising laws to strengthen the legal safeguards for public health, according to a work report. The annual work report of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee was submitted Monday to the ongoing fourth session of the 13th NPC for deliberation. China’s judicial, procuratorial authorities resolute to fight corruption: reports
BEIJING -- China's judicial and procuratorial organs have maintained high pressure against corruption, figures unveiled Monday show. At a plenary meeting of the fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress, two reports on the work of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) were delivered for deliberations. A total of 22,000 cases of embezzlement, bribery and dereliction of duty involving 26,000 people were concluded in 2020, according to the SPC report. Among the defendants who have been prosecuted were 12 former ministerial-level officials, including Zhao Zhengyong and Lai Xiaomin, it said. Chinese courts have been in conjunction with related departments to pursue graft fugitives and recover illegal assets. The illegal assets totaling 1.15 billion yuan ($177.5 million) from 164 fugitives on the "red-notice" list were confiscated, according to the SPC report. The Chinese government's top diplomat, Wang Yi, said on Sunday that Beijing is ready to engage with relevant parties to ease the situation in Myanmar, where the military seized power last month. China's friendship is with all of Myanmar, State Councillor Wang told a news conference on the sidelines of China's annual gathering of parliament. Meanwhile, authorities in Myanmar have asked India to return several police officers who have sought refuge to avoid taking orders from a military junta that seized power in the Southeast Asian country last month, an official in northeast India said on Saturday.
