Vladimir Nabokov Ponders Superman, Lois Lane’s Sex Life in Lost Poem

· March 5, 2021 ·

A lost poem written by Vladimir Nabokov about Superman — in which the Man of Steel envisions a tragic wedding night with Lois Lane and longs to be a mortal man — has been published for the first time. Written in June 1942 and rejected by the New Yorker , “ The Man of To-morrow’s Lament ” was penned two years after Nabokov emigrated from Russia to the U.S., with the Lolita author focusing on the American cultural icon — he read the comics to his 8-year-old son — and jumping into one of the biggest debates in comic book-dom: Whether or not Clark Kent and Lois Lane could have a sexual relationship. In the poem, Clark Kent ruminates that while he loves Lois Lane, “marriage would be murder on my part,” as his wedding night coitus with Lois would likely result in her death, as well as the destruction of both the big hotel they’re staying in and “the smaller one next door.” Related Stories 'I Never Was a Beat Poet': Lawrence Ferlinghetti's Musical Vision … [Read more...] about Vladimir Nabokov Ponders Superman, Lois Lane’s Sex Life in Lost Poem

Marjorie Taylor Greene, Alex Mooney Rail Against Dr. Seuss ‘Cancel Culture’

· March 4, 2021 ·

Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Alex Mooney have joined the chorus of Republican lawmakers railing against the decision to stop publishing several Dr. Seuss books. Dr. Seuss Enterprises issued a statement on Tuesday saying six of the late author's titles would no longer be reprinted. "These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong," the statement read. The decision—announced on Read Across America Day on March 2, which was also the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel—has been questioned by several Republican lawmakers. Rep. Greene of Georgia shared a poem on Twitter alongside a drawing of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat that read: "If I published books, I wouldn't succumb to leftists' dirty looks. "I would never cancel the author of Cat in the Hat . "Nope, I would never do that." The poem concluded: "Woke progressives want cancel culture, they're just a bunch of nasty vultures." Mooney, a congressman from West Virginia, also railed against … [Read more...] about Marjorie Taylor Greene, Alex Mooney Rail Against Dr. Seuss ‘Cancel Culture’

BOSTON (CBS) – A local tween is on a mission to help students who are struggling with mental health during the coronavirus pandemic. She called for increased safety measures at her school in Boston’s South End and started shining a light on the root of the problem: the school’s proximity to the so-called Methadone Mile. “That’s when I started speaking up for people saying they needed this health care and needed just help to make them feel better.” Jay’dha brought her concerns to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and started collecting and donating clothes, deodorant and toothbrushes to those struggling on the streets. She even spent this past … [Read more...] about 12-Year-Old Creates Self-Care Workshop For Students Struggling During Pandemic
