The sport’s bosses are currently putting together the final plans for the trial of a Saturday qualifying race at select events this year. If the plans gets the necessary support from teams, which looks likely, then the revised format is set to run at the Canadian, Italian and Brazilian Grands Prix. One of the factors being considered is to ensure that the shorter race on Saturday does not detract from the focus being on the main race on Sunday. That is why, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has said that thoughts are being given to making sure that nothing allows the Saturday event to overshadow the main event. “We are defining the sprint races now and we will present the programme before the Bahrain Grand Prix,” said Domenicali, at an event where F1 revealed a new tie-up with Ferrari Trento to provide its sparkling wine for the podiums from this year. “We have to make sure that there is a difference between the iconic celebration of the race – which is the iconic … [Read more...] about Domenicali: F1 may not have podiums after sprint race

Aston Martin launches new car in return to F1 after 61 years
SILVERSTONE, England - The Aston Martin team presented its new Formula One car on Wednesday, revealing a slick livery of British racing green as it returns to the series for the first time since 1960. Aston Martin left after failing to score any points that year and returns to the grid with high hopes after signing four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel. He has won 53 F1 races but endured a dismal final year with Ferrari in 2020 during which he secured just one podium finish. “I love the history of motor racing and Aston Martin is one of the great names of the past, so it is fun to be part of their return,“ Vettel said at the team’s online launch on Wednesday. “I have not driven the car yet, obviously, but I think it looks great. I am really looking forward to getting it out on the track.” He will race alongside Canadian driver Lance Stroll, whose father Lawrence Stroll owns the team after completing a nearly $1 billion takeover last April. Alfa Stelvio ‘Ring Record Video In Doubt, Evidence Of Editing
The Italian SUV may not be as fast as it seems. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio lapped the Nürburgring in a record 7 minutes 51.7 seconds , making it the fastest SUV ever around the Green Hell. But with any record-breaking Nürburgring lap, some are calling into question the legitimacy of Alfa Romeo’s run, citing a number of editing issues within the video. The legitimacy question was first brought up by the website Bridge to Gantry , which pointed out a number of issues that could provide evidence of the video being faked. The video, which shows all 7 minutes and 51.7 seconds of the run, sees the Stelvio show up at the same location multiple times throughout, including the 2 kilometer sign, which shows up twice near the beginning of the video. See if you can spot it: Honda Civic Type R , which recorded a 7 minute 50.63-second lap prior to its 7 minute 43.8 second-run set in April. The latter of the two is a new front-wheel-drive record: Porsche 911 GT2 RS … [Read more...] about Alfa Stelvio ‘Ring Record Video In Doubt, Evidence Of Editing
CIRA seeks grant applications for internet projects
The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has once again put out a national call for grant applications for funds to assist internet projects across the country. Preference will be given to projects that not only benefit students but also those geared to assist Indigenous communities and those in rural and northern locations. CIRA has been providing more than $1 million in funding to various projects each year since 2014. For the past few years, including this year, it has offered $1.25 million in grants. Registered charities, non-profit organizations and researchers and academics affiliated with a post-secondary school in Canada are encouraged to submit funding applications for projects before the April 14 deadline. Traditionally, CIRA officials receive more than 100 applications for funding annually. “We usually fund 15- 20- per cent of the applications that come in,” said Maureen James, who manages CIRA’s Community Investment Program. “It’s very competitive.” … [Read more...] about CIRA seeks grant applications for internet projects
