REUTERS: The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is to give 140 clubs from the lower divisions and women's leagues a lump sum aimed at helping them survive the crisis caused by the new coronavirus, the organisation said on Monday. The 19 million reais (US$3.6 million) will go to 88 clubs in the third and fourth tier of the men's leagues and the 52 teams in the top two women's divisions. "We're living through an unprecedented moment of global crisis, whose extension and consequences are still incalculable," CBF president Rogerio Caboclo said. German clubs ratify play suspension until at least April 30: DFL
BERLIN: German clubs from the top two divisions on Tuesday ratified a proposal to extend the suspension of matches until at least April 30 amid the coronavirus outbreak but still plan to finish the season by June 30, the German Football League (DFL) said. The DFL had last week proposed the extension from April 2 with the country still in lockdown to contain the spread of the virus. DFL CEO Christian Seifert said team training could not resume before April 5 but the league still planned to complete the season by end of June. "We cannot even discuss anything earlier than April 30," Seifert told a news conference with reporters phoning in. "It would be completely inappropriate. Germany has other things to deal with at the moment." More than 67,000 people have been infected in Germany and more than 680 have died as the virus sweeps across the continent. "Nothing changed in our plan to finish the season by June 30," Seifert said in a news conference, adding though that given the … [Read more...] about German clubs ratify play suspension until at least April 30: DFL
Four Bundesliga teams create a 20 million euros fund for clubs in crisis
REUTERS: Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen have come together to create a 20 million euros (18.3 million pounds) solidarity fund to help German clubs in the top two tiers stave off a potential financial crisis during the coronavirus pandemic. Germany's Bundesliga and second division are set to resume in April but the organising body's (DFL) executive committee has recommended the season be suspended until at least April 30, which will further impact revenues of clubs across the country. Dortmund said the four clubs, who participated in the Champions League this season, will forego their share of the national media revenue - approximately 12.5 million euros - while adding an additional 7.5 million euros of their own. "We are prepared to help out other professional football clubs if it is ultimately a matter of cushioning the financial effects of the pandemic," Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said in a statement … [Read more...] about Four Bundesliga teams create a 20 million euros fund for clubs in crisis

HONG KONG: Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been diagnosed with COVID-19 following his return to China, the Belgian's Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng announced on its official website on Sunday. Fellaini, who joined Shandong last January from the English Premier League side, returned to the country on Friday to join up with his club and tested positive for the coronavirus. The former Belgium international did not have a fever and was asymptomatic, the club said, and has now been placed in quarantine. Chinese football has been hit hard by the outbreak, with the start of the Chinese Super League pushed back indefinitely from its intended Feb. 22 start date. Fellaini, however, is the first player in the country's top flight to have returned a positive test for the virus.
