MELBOURNE: Next year's Australian Open could be pushed back to a Feb 8 to Feb 21 window and players would be allowed to train outside their hotel rooms during quarantine, Australian media reported on Wednesday (Dec 2). Tennis Australia has been in talks with the Victoria state government over the coronavirus protocols to be established for those arriving ahead of the Grand Slam at Melbourne Park, which is currently scheduled for between Jan 18 and Jan 31. State officials have confirmed players will have to undergo quarantine and that the tournament will likely start one or two weeks later than scheduled. Victoria state, of which Melbourne is the capital, has not recorded a new case of COVID-19 in over a month after a nearly four-month hard lockdown to combat a second wave of infections. A phone call from Rowan Carroll has often left people overwhelmed, in disbelief and in tears. But sometimes her cold-calls have reconnected out-of-touch families and led to people discovering things they never knew about their relatives. Carroll, the director of the New Zealand Police Museum, is tasked with poring through historic birth, and hospital records, newspaper archives and coroners’ reports, to unearth the names and stories of every officer killed in the line of duty since the police was formed in 1886. Her mission is to track down the next-of-kin and relatives, to ask their permission to commemorate them on the memorial wall, at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua.
