LONDON: The man who raped, tortured and killed Richard Huckle , described as “Britain’s worst ever paedophile”, has been given a life sentence, and will have to serve at least 34 years in prison, British media reported on Tuesday (Nov 24). Paul Fitzgerald - a fellow inmate at a high security prison near York in the United Kingdom - beat, stabbed and strangled Huckle to death on Oct 13, 2019. Huckle, 33, had been convicted of sexually abusing children in Malaysia, and was serving 22 concurrent life sentences for his crimes. Fitzgerald, now 30, suffers from medical conditions such as psychopathy, anti-social personality disorder and gender identity disorder, and was himself in prison for sexual assault, the BBC reported. He has a history of violent and sexual offences dating back to when he was 13 years old. Fitzgerald called his attack on Huckle “poetic justice” for the crimes the latter committed against children. ‘Don’t know if I’ll ever fly again’: Pilots, aircrew in Malaysia turn entrepreneurs to tide over COVID-19

· December 6, 2020 ·

KUALA LUMPUR: It has been months since Naeem Nassir was terminated from Oman Air in July, and the 30-year-old pilot still longs for the adrenaline rush and glamour of his previous work. His job of two years was quite different from the traditional deskbound nine-to-five. The senior first officer counted frequent international travel, an above average income and an office above the clouds as some of its perks. For now, taking to the skies is out of reach for Naeem and hundreds of his pilot and flight attendant colleagues in Malaysia who have been grounded or sacked as COVID-19 pandemic has decimated the air travel industry. Over the last few months, two major airlines in Malaysia, Malindo Air and AirAsia, have confirmed that there have been layoffs while national carrier Malaysia Airlines has implemented cost-cutting measures such as unpaid leave and pay cuts. Some of those impacted have turned to entrepreneurship to earn a living, kick-starting businesses in the hope that … [Read more...] about ‘Don’t know if I’ll ever fly again’: Pilots, aircrew in Malaysia turn entrepreneurs to tide over COVID-19

Football: Iniesta on target as Vissel Kobe advance in Asian Champions League

· November 26, 2020 ·

HONG KONG: Andres Iniesta was on target as Vissel Kobe became the first team to book their place in the knockout stage of the eastern zone of the Asian Champions League in Doha on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over two-time champions Guangzhou Evergrande. The Spanish World Cup winner put the seal on the win six minutes from time after Kyogo Furuhashi and Douglas had both found the net for last year's Emperor's Cup winners. With only three teams in the group following the withdrawal of Malaysian side Johor Darul Ta’zim, Kobe’s win was enough to ensure a top two finish in Group G and take the Atsuhiro Miura-coached side into the last 16 in their debut appearance. "I think they played a much better game than us in all aspects, so unfortunately we didn’t win this game," said Guangzhou’s Anderson Talisca. Furuhashi had given Kobe the lead on the stroke of halftime when he slotted his effort home following Iniesta’s cut back from the bye-line. However, the Japanese winger put the ball … [Read more...] about Football: Iniesta on target as Vissel Kobe advance in Asian Champions League
