The world is at a standstill. An outbreak of respiratory disease by a novel strain of coronavirus has turned into a global pandemic. They traced the origin of the COVID-19 outbreak to Wuhan, a small town in Hubei Province, China. It has infected hundreds of thousands. Last March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global pandemic with 90 percent of the world’s cases in four countries — China, Italy, Iran, and South Korea. They named the virus “SARS-CoV-2,” with the strain’s similarities to the SARS-COV responsible for the outbreak in 2003. The disease that SARS-COV-2 causes is now the “Coronavirus Disease 2019” (COVID-19). What is Coronavirus? According to WHO , coronaviruses (CoV) are strains of viruses that cause common, mild illnesses like the common cold and seasonal flu. However, they are also responsible for some of the world’s most severe outbreaks such as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) in 2012 and the Severe Acute Respiratory … [Read more...] about Coronavirus Pandemic 2020: Everything You Need to Know

A plan introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) would increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour for Americans employed by billion-dollar corporations. Hawley’s legislation would require corporations with revenues of $1 billion or more to pay their employees at least $15 an hour, a wage increase that would likely boost salaries for millions of Americans while protecting small businesses. Hawley said on Friday: In this moment of crisis, our country needs us to stand up and say, ‘We will not be ruled by giant corporations and liberal elite.’ We will not be told what to do by these modern-day oligarchs. What we need is a new nationalism, a new agenda to make the rule of the people real in this country and give the people American back, give it back to them. The minimum wage has not been raised in any way since 2009, when the cost of living was 20 percent lower. In addition, Hawley has introduced separate legislation known as the Blue Collar Bonus which would give bonuses to every … [Read more...] about Josh Hawley Plan Would Require $15 Wage for Employees of Billion-Dollar Corporations
Logistics facilities would be an attractive REIT asset class The Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) has been creating a lot of buzz in the local capital market over the past year. A new type of investment instrument, REIT is a company established principally for the purpose of owning income-generating real estate assets that can provide a return to investors from rental income. It has been touted as increasingly attractive investment option, especially after the Ayala Land-backed AREIT Inc. successfully completed last year its P13.6 billion initial public offering (IPO), while DoubleDragon Properties’ DDMP REIT Inc. recently secured an approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its planned P14.7-billion IPO. Industry analysts had said that REIT came at the right time to boost the country’s economy, which was heavily battered by the health crisis. Deemed as a bright spot, REIT provides another source of capital for projects in different industries such as … [Read more...] about A guide for the REIT decision
Singapore’s Fullerton Hotels and Resorts announced on Thursday (Jul 18) that The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is on track to open in 90 days’ time, on Oct 18, 2019. The property at 1 Martin Place – smack in the middle of the CBD and a short stroll from attractions like the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the vibrant enclave of Barangaroo – was home to The Westin Sydney for more than two decades. It occupies a modern high-rise as well as the city’s historic General Post Office (GPO), a heritage-listed building constructed in 1874. This aspect is what the Sydney hotel has in common with its Singaporean counterpart: The Fullerton Building once housed the GPO (and later, Singapore Post) from 1928 until 1996. In 1997, Hong Kong-based Sino Land Company Limited, a sister company of Far East Organisation, pumped in S$300 million to redevelop Fullerton Building into The Fullerton Hotel and construct the One Fullerton complex. When asked how much was spent to refurbish the Sydney … [Read more...] about The Fullerton Hotel Sydney opens in 90 days’ time. Here’s what to expect
According to neuroanatomist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, from the moment a threat—or the thought that there is a threat—triggers the release of stress hormones , our ability to think clearly is impaired for about 90 seconds. During that time, executive function , our high-level thinking, doesn't work well. Dr. Taylor suggests we take a 90-second break before taking action so the stress hormones that cloud our thinking can burn off. That may be good advice for couples when they are angry at each other, or when a parent loses their temper with a child. But, as a fighter pilot, I never had the luxury of waiting 90 seconds before dealing with an emergency. That's why first responders, as well as pilots, do repetitive training to establish well-thought-out steps in " unconscious procedural memory ," a brain function that works well even when stress hormone levels are high. Unconscious procedural memory can also be trained to neutralize the negative effect stress hormones have on … [Read more...] about The 90-Second Rule: What If You Don’t Have 90 Seconds?
