England’s Malan attains highest ever T20 batting rating

· December 2, 2020 ·

REUTERS: England's Dawid Malan has notched up the highest-ever rating for a batsman in the men's Twenty20 International rankings after topping the scoring charts against South Africa, the International Cricket Council said on Wednesday. The 33-year-old has reached 915 points, the first player to cross the 900-point mark in the format. Australia's Aaron Finch posted exactly 900 points in July 2018. Malan's terrific run with the bat saw him top the series aggregate with 173 runs as England completed a 3-0 series sweep against South Africa. His match-winning unbeaten 99 in the final match on Tuesday helped England leapfrog Australia to take the top spot in the men's T20I team rankings. Former England captain Nasser Hussain praised Malan for his versatile style and consistency. "On difficult pitches he grinds out a score while when you need to up the run rate and you can't be using up deliveries on dot balls in the powerplay he doesn't - he just goes out and smashes it," … [Read more...] about England’s Malan attains highest ever T20 batting rating

Ferrari profit steady as it recovers lost lockdown output

· November 3, 2020 ·

MILAN: Luxury sportscar maker Ferrari on Tuesday (Nov 3) reported its profits remained flat in the third quarter as it recovers lost production from the coronavirus shutdown. The company based in the northern Italian city of Maranello said net profit was €171 million (US$200 million) in the quarter, compared with €169 million in the same period last year. Shipments were down by 161 units, to 2,313 vehicles. Ferrari said it is still working on recovering the 2,000 vehicle production loss during Italy’s seven-week shutdown. Revenues sank by 3 per cent to €888 million, from €915 million in the same period last year. Car revenues rose on sales of the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 special editions models, which continue to be delivered on schedule, while sponsorship, commercial and brand revenues were hit by the pandemic and the resulting cancellation of some Formula 1 races. Ferrari raised guidance to the higher end of guidelines set in August, with revenues above €3.4 billion and … [Read more...] about Ferrari profit steady as it recovers lost lockdown output

Johnson ponders lockdown for England as COVID-19 cases vault 1 million

· October 31, 2020 ·

LONDON: Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to order England back into a national lockdown as the United Kingdom passed the grim milestone of one million COVID-19 cases and scientists warned the virus was spreading faster than their worst predictions. The United Kingdom, which has the biggest official death toll in Europe from COVID-19, is grappling with more than 20,000 new coronavirus cases a day and scientists have warned the "worst case" scenario of 80,000 dead could be exceeded. As Johnson prepared for a hastily arranged news conference in Downing Street after news of the lockdown leaked to local media, the government said total confirmed COVID-19 cases had risen 21,915 in the past day to 1,011,660. Johnson held a cabinet meeting on Saturday (Oct 31) after government scientists warned the outbreak was going in the wrong direction and that action was needed to halt the spread of the virus if families were to have any hope of gathering at Christmas. SHANGHAI: Mainland China reported 47 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Oct 28, up from 42 a day earlier and marking the highest daily increase in more than two months, the country's national health authority said on Thursday (Oct 29). Of the new cases, 23 were local infections in Xinjiang involving previously asymptomatic patients following a mass infection reported in Kashgar.
