Uber Technologies Inc will put self-driving vehicles on Washington, D.C. roads Friday with human drivers in control, the ride share company said on Thursday, as it seeks to collect data for future deployment of fully self-driving vehicles. Uber is collecting similar road data to support development of self-driving in Dallas, San Francisco and Toronto with human drivers in control. The goal is for computers to operate the vehicles eventually. The company said it hopes "this first round of manually driven data collection will lay the foundation for testing our vehicles in self-driving mode in Washington, DC." Uber is operating self-driving cars in autonomous mode in Pittsburgh with safety drivers behind the wheel but only during daylight hours. NEW DELHI: It seems that Apple has still not given up on its self driving car project. The company has filed for a new patent which will turn Siri into you personal chauffer. The new patent technology of the Cupertino-based tech giant will enable users to use voice commands to their self-driving car and the car will later do all the navigation. This will make Siri your personalised driver. The new patent filed by the company comes with a title 'Guidance of Autonomous Vehicles in Destination Vicinities Using Intent Signals'. The company filed for the patent in August and it has now become public. As per the patent, the new technology can be used to direct the self-driving vehicles to reach a particular destination with the help of voice commands, gestures or touchscreen.
