· September 29, 2020 ·

Paulie's robot Sico has been axed from Sylvester Stallone's new cut of Rocky IV , and the creator of the machine believes it was a cost-cutting measure. In the works to honor the 35th anniversary of the release of the hit sequel, Stallone's Rocky IV Director's Cut has a lot of excitement surrounding the project. With so many fans asking about it, Stallone has been speaking about its progress on social media. Cycling: Jumbo-Visma riders tested negative for COVID-19, says Roglic

· September 14, 2020 ·

LONDON: Jumbo-Visma rider and yellow jersey holder Primoz Roglic said on Monday he and his team have tested negative for COVID-19 after the second round of tests on Sunday and Monday, ahead of stage 16 of the Tour de France. The rules in place this year state that should a team have two positive cases, the whole outfit will be thrown out of the race. "They said that we were negative so I'm happy that we have one more week of racing," Roglic said. However, a team spokesman remained cautious as he said the results of the staff members were not out yet. "We are not allowed to confirm that," he said. "Anyway, not all our results are known yet." Slovenian Roglic leads by 40 seconds ahead of Tuesday's mountain trek between La Tour du Pin and Villard de Lans. Second-placed compatriot Tadej Pogacar appears to be the only credible threat, after defending champion Egan Bernal dropped out of contention when he cracked in the ascent to the Col du Grand Colombier. … [Read more...] about Cycling: Jumbo-Visma riders tested negative for COVID-19, says Roglic

Gilead’s shares rise after US$21 billion deal for Immunomedics

· September 15, 2020 ·

LONDON: Shares of Gilead Sciences rose 3.2 per cent on Monday, reversing their premarket losses as investors shrugged off concerns over the steep premium the US drugmaker was willing to pay for Immunomedics Inc . Gilead on Sunday agreed to buy the biopharmaceutical company for US$21 billion and acquire all the outstanding shares of Immunomedics for US$88 per share, at a premium of about 108 per cent over Friday's closing price of US$42.25. The deal gives Gilead access to Immunomedics' cancer treatment drug, Trodelvy, which was granted an accelerated approval in April by the US Food and Drug administration for an aggressive and tough-to-treat type of breast cancer. Brokerage Jefferies said investors may take some time to digest the deal, but it believed the deal offered a path for Gilead to quickly move into the solid tumors market. Brokerage Oppenheimer views the purchase price as "reasonable", and said the cancer drug "slots neatly" in Gilead's oncology strategy. Irish High court freezes probe into Facebook’s EU-US data flows

· September 15, 2020 ·

DUBLIN: Ireland's High Court on Monday (Sep 14) temporarily froze a probe by Facebook's lead European Union regulator that threatened to halt the US social media giant's transatlantic data flows, a court spokesman said. Facebook had sought a judicial review of the Irish Data Protection Commission's preliminary decision that the mechanism it used to transfer data from the European Union to the United States "cannot in practice be used." "Leave to take the Judicial Review was granted," the court spokesman said. "A stay was put on the Section 11 order," he added, referring to the Data Protection Commission order that threatened to block the data flows. No date has yet been set for the matter to return to the court, he said. In seeking to derail the Irish regulator's decision, Facebook has said the mechanism in question, the Standard Contractual Clause (SCC), had been deemed valid by the Court of Justice of the European Union in July. However, the July ruling also said that … [Read more...] about Irish High court freezes probe into Facebook’s EU-US data flows

Alphabet’s YouTube to launch TikTok-like product

· September 15, 2020 ·

NEW YORK: Alphabet Inc's YouTube is rolling out its version of social media rival TikTok, a new short-form video service called Shorts, enabled within its video-sharing platform. YouTube will first test the feature in India over the next few days and then expand to more countries in the coming months, it said in a blog post on Monday. YouTube's new product, which will compete with Facebook Inc's Reels and TikTok, will let users record short mobile-friendly vertical videos and then add special effects and soundtracks pulled from a music library. The announcement also comes as Oracle Corp and China's ByteDance team up to keep TikTok operating in the United States, beating Microsoft Corp in a deal structured as a partnership rather than an outright sale. YouTube's entry into the short-form video service space coincides with TikTok's ban in one of its biggest market, India, following the country's escalating tensions with China. … [Read more...] about Alphabet’s YouTube to launch TikTok-like product
