A family is struggling to rebuild their lives and a man is mourning the loss of his two dogs after a fire engulfed their neighbouring homes on the West Coast. Mathew McKinnon had just moved to Hall Jones St in Runanga the day before the fire happened, and was asleep in bed when it broke out at 3.45am on February 21. He was lucky to escape alive.
