Britain faces lockdown limbo: Tory fury as Matt Hancock hints at tougher enforcement saying ‘nothing is ruled out’ and admitting new squeeze to fight ‘out of control’ mutant Covid will last MONTHS – with vaccines only hope of escape

Matt Hancock today warned that ‘nothing is ruled out’ to contain mutant Covid as he defied Tory anger to hint the whole of England will be under Tier 4 within days – and enforcement could be hardened.   The Health Secretary put Britons on notice that stronger restrictions will be needed for months, despite the optimism sparked by the first Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine doses being administered. Responding to demands from scientists and Labour for an immediate new national squeeze, Mr Hancock said all options were on the table. But he suggested the first step will be to escalate even more of the country into the harshest restrictions, saying Tier 3 did not seem able to hold back the more infectious version of the deadly disease.
