GRASPING fuel giants are using the Iran crisis as an excuse to fleece motorists, say campaigners. Fair Fuel UK analysis found the cost of crude oil has fallen by 4.1 per cent since December 30 — with petrol and diesel down by more than 0.7 per cent. Yet over the same period, petrol prices at the pumps has risen by 3.2p a litre, and diesel 2.9p. Fair Fuel UK says firms failed to pass on £8billion from wholesale price falls since January 2015. That’s £208 for each of Britain’s 37million drivers. Co-founder Howard Cox called the crisis a “groundless excuse to fatten bloated corporate wallets”.Last night the figures led to renewed calls for a new watchdog to stop consumers from being ripped off. Tory MP Robert Halfon called for a petrol pump regulator. He said: “Oil companies are taking motorists for fuels yet again.” “Any excuse and prices jack up at the pumps pretty quickly.”MOST READ IN NEWSWHAT MEGHAN WANTS, MEGHAN GETS Queen gives in to Harry & Meg and says they CAN quit Royals ExclusiveBRUISED BROTHERS Wills & Harry had furious row night before families hung out at polo event HAZ ENOUGH Harry may leave UK to join Meg… Read full this story
