The events of Avengers: Endgame raise many questions about the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This post contains major spoilers for Avengers: Endgame. Time travel. If there is one constant with the concept in movies it is that it always makes everything more complicated once the rules are thought about. This holds true for Avengers: Endgame as well. Leading to the very important question of did Avengers: Endgame just make every previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movie not happen? The short answer is no. In fact, time travel in Endgame makes sense per the in-movie rules that are explained by The Ancient One. The Avengers can go back and take the Infinity Stones from the past to use them to undo Thanos’ snap. But, they are unable to stop Thanos from ever snapping in the first place. They can bring everybody back, however to insure the characters stay who we know them, everything, including the snap and five year time jump have to still happen.
