SSIT Port receives first container vessel By Le Hoang Container vessel MSC Rosaria at SSIT Port – PHOTO: SSIT HCMC – SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) Port in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, a joint venture between Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) and the United States’ SSA Holdings International, on June 14 received the first international container vessel MSC Rosaria. The container vessel, weighing in at over 63,000 DWT and stretching 275 meters in length, is owned and operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC), known as the world’s second-largest shipping line in terms of container vessel capacity. The vessel has an intake capacity of 4,860 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Two MSC container vessels are scheduled to dock at SSIT Port every week. SSIT Port, with its 600-meter dock, covers an area of 60.5 hectares and can handle vessels of up to 160,000 DWT. The terminal is equipped with container cranes for uploading cargo. A representative of Vinalines SSIT said two more container vessels able to carry up to 300,000 TEUs per year would arrive at SSIT Port from a new shipping line, adding that the port will start to woo the container cargo market by the end of 2018.
