TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte: Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez has requested House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez for an additional budget in preparation for the country’s hosting of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2019. Alvarez mentioned the request during his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championships on Sunday evening at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex (DNSTC) here. “[Before I delivered my speech], I was sitting beside Chairman Ramirez. We talked about different things but one thing I remember the most was his request for an additional budget for Philippine Sports Commission for the 2019 SEA Games,” Alvarez said. The Philippines is scheduled to host the SEA Games either in Metro Manila or in Davao City. Alvarez stressed the importance of additional funding for the training of Filipino athletes so that they can compete well in the regional meet. Alvarez also encouraged his fellow lawmakers, who were present during the opening rites, including Surigao del Sur’s 1st District representative Prospero Pichay Jr., Jericho Nograles of Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta and Compostella Valley Representative Ruwel Gonzaga, to help him fulfill Ramirez’s request.
