Belgium makes big investment pledges By Tran Thu – The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Belgium will invest in a series of major projects in Vietnam after 37 contracts and agreements were signed during the Belgian business mission’s visit to Vietnam from March 11 to 16. Those deals cover four main fields namely port and infrastructure development, foodstuff, green technology and healthcare, the Belgian ambassador to Vietnam, Bruno Angelet, told a press briefing in HCMC last Saturday. There are four government-to-government cooperation agreements on avoidance of double taxation, public finance, space technology, and financial support for Vietnam to buy a small satellite from Belgium. Ambassador Angelet said one of the most important agreements is a 66-million-euro project in which Belgium will supply a small satellite for Vietnam to improve management of natural resources and cope with natural disasters. In the field of infrastructure development, a Belgium company will participate in the second phase of the Soai Rap River navigational channel dredging project in HCMC. Haiphong’s government and Dinh Vu Industrial Park Joint Stock Company signed an agreement with a Belgian partner to expand the Haiphong-based Dinh Vu Industrial Park to accommodate more investors.
