Who’s Keeping Their Confederate Flags, Who’s Not

But the attack seems to have instead united the American public definitively against the central icon of the Confederacy. The Confederate flag is fast becoming toxic both for politicians who have long avoided the controversy that surrounds the flag, as well as for large retailers that carry products emblazoned with the symbol. Below is a roundup of who is reconsidering their affiliation with the Confederate flag — and who isn’t.  State Efforts to Remove Confederate Symbols:Alabama Governor Robert Bentley ordered the Confederate flag be removed from the Confederate memorial in front of the state capitol. Two workers unexpectedly removed it around 8 a.m. this morning without answering questions. After removing the battle flag, they removed the First National Confederate Flag, the Second National Confederate Flag, and the Third National Confederate Flag from the capitol grounds.
