AND so we reach the time when gongs must be handed out to the good, the bad and the ugly of the past year. With global economic collapse, riots, soaring unemployment, strikes, plummeting living standards, not to mention Steps reforming and McNo-marks from McFly winning I’m A Celebrity… and Strictly Come Dancing, 2011 won’t go down as a great year. But it’s had moments, which have made us laugh and cry, punch the air and kick the cat. So, let us salute the people behind them: WOMAN OF THE YEAR You couldn’t help but admire Cheryl Cole for showing Ashley the door. Or Adele for smashing every musical record out there and proving to the size-zero brigade that you can be a female superstar and still eat. But the award goes to Speaker’s wife Sally Bercow for constantly winding up Tories so much they now detest her more than Harriet Harman. By going on Big Brother, tweeting her support for Labour, standing before Big Ben in only a bed sheet, slagging off Kirstie Allsopp and heckling David Cameron from the Commons public gallery, she has become Tory Public Enemy Number One.
