On Thursday, the custom PC manufacturer Maingear announced the launch of two new laptops, the Alt-15 and Alt-17. Both high-performance laptops come with Nvidia’s Optimus technology and are available with Intel Core i5 and i7 mobile processors. The Alt-15 and Alt-17 have a discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 425M GPU, a 1,920-by-1,080 resolution screen (with a 16:9 aspect ratio), and can be configured with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory. Other configuration options include up to a 512GB solid-state drive or up to a 500GB Hybrid SSD hard drive. The two laptops also have a 3-in-1 media card reader, fingerprint reader, and 2-megapixel webcam. The Maingear Alt-15 measures 9.8 by 15.27 by .098/1.46 inches (HWD). It sports a glossy 15.6-inch LED widescreen. It has three USB 3.0 ports, three USB 2.0 ports, as well as HDMI and eSATA. Wireless connectivity comes via 802.11b/g/n. It can be configured with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 CPU, up to 2.8GHz. The price for the base configuration starts at $1,049.
