Singing kite festival called off due to bad weather
HA NOI — The show entitled Paintings on Kites will regretfully not take place tonight at the My Dinh National Stadium due to severe weather forecasts, said Nguyen Nga, director of the Maison des Arts, the host of the show.
Thirty-eight traditional singing kites decorated by local contemporary artists were to be released tonight in celebration of the Full Moon Festival. However, the organising committee had to cancel the event because of the impending bad weather. Nga says the event will be held in a few days when the weather gets better. Vietnamese feature film scores Japanese distribution
HA NOI — Japan’s BHD Company has purchased the copyright to Duong Thu, a feature film by director Bui Tuan Dung, and has officially released the DVD in Japan and several other Asian countries.
The successful theatrical work was produced in 2005. It depicted the war as seen through the many letters of a military postman and showed the silent sacrifices that many made during war time.
Ha Noi street directory ready for foreign visitors
HA NOI — The Cartographic Publishing House has released a handy little guidebook entitled, Ha Noi Street Directory, which provides necessary and important information for international visitors to the city.
The pocket-sized book is very convenient for important locations, including the most up-to-date street locations and names, restaurants, hotels, bus stops and famous entertainment sites.Besides locations, the book further equips its readers with basic knowledge about the capital and has a directory for proper names of public places. The directory is now available at 85 Nguyen Chi Thanh Street and in bookstores nationwide.
Puppet theatre visits Mexican festivals
HA NOI — Thang Long Puppet Theatre’s tour of Mexico has brought them to both the Festival International Chihuahua and the Foundation Monterey, two large and beautiful cultural festivals, since their arrival on September 19.
The Festival International Chihuahua is the newer of the two festivals, and aims to breathe fresh life into the cultural activities of 26 provinces in the state. People of all ages participated in events such as a photography festival and celebrations for movie-lovers and bookworms.
Artists from the Thang Long Puppet Theatre also joined in on the 2007 Foundation Monterey’s culture and arts festival, an event held in a different country every four years. The festival exhibits many cultural events such as dancing performances, traditional Mexican cooking, music, circus acts and many other visual arts. The theatre’s Mexican tour will end on October 21. — VNS
