Laos, Viet Nam strengthen ties (06-03-2007) VIENTIANE — Government officials from Viet Nam and Laos called their recent meetings in Vientiane a complete success, yesterday. The Vietnamese and Laotian delegations, led by Directors Ha Manh Tri and Somphanh Pengkhammy respectively, used the meetings to pass on information about each nation's economic development, strengthen diplomatic ties and review the countries' co-operation agreement. Both groups vowed to continue the sharing process with a new focus on preventing crime and resolving issues arising in border communities. In addition, the Laotian delegation asked for help building a personnel training centre sometime in the future. Institute visit A delegation from the Ho Chi Minh National Political Institute led by its deputy director, Dr Nguyen Dang Thanh, also visited Laos' Political and National Administration Institute. During the visit, which concluded on Sunday, the delegation had a working session with their Laotian counterparts that was led by Dr Thongsalith Mangnomek, its deputy director. The two sides discussed a project to translate works of Marx, Lenin and Ho Chi Minh from Vietnamese into Lao.
